Traffic units and multipliers: how far does 1 GB go?

GB and Gb differ by a factor of eight, and a multiplier can turn 1 GB into 300 MB of usable transfer. The arithmetic you need.

"Is 100 GB enough?" has no direct answer, because it depends on what you do and how your plan counts it. Here is how to work it out yourself.

How multipliers work

Providers often assign different multipliers to different routes. A multiplier means: transferring 1 GB deducts 1 GB × multiplier from your quota.

So a "100 GB" plan used entirely on 3x dedicated lines yields about 33 GB of actual transfer. On 0.2x routes it yields 500 GB.

Note the gaming line: match traffic itself is tiny. What consumes quota is game downloads and patches, where a single update can be tens of gigabytes. Always route those direct.

Estimating your own needs

Monthly estimate
Monthly = (hours per day per activity x hourly usage) x 30 x average multiplier

Example:
  1 hour/day of 1080p video   = 1.5 GB
  2 hours/day of browsing     = 0.12 GB
  0.5 hours/day of music      = 0.075 GB

Conclusion: a 100 GB plan fits, without much headroom.

Practical ways to use less

  1. Configure routing properly. Sending local traffic direct typically halves consumption.
  2. Route large downloads direct. Game patches, OS updates and cloud-drive sync should never go through the tunnel.
  3. Drop the video resolution. 4K to 1080p cuts usage to roughly a fifth and is barely noticeable on a phone.
  4. Filter out high-multiplier servers so they never enter your list.
  5. Disable autoplay — video sites and social apps consume quota while you are not watching.
